# Can you scan multiple pages into one PDF? — DocFind

**Yes. The free scanners on iPhone and Android all build one document from several pages: you capture the first page, then keep scanning or tap an Add button for each further page, and the file is only made when you tap Done or Save.** The step to watch is that last one. Tap it after page one and you get a one-page PDF, and the section on a forgotten page, further down, covers what to do then. Below is where each scanner puts the add-page step, in its maker's words. How to start a scan at all is on [scanning documents with your phone](https://docfindapp.com/answers/scan-documents-on-my-phone).

## iPhone Notes: keep scanning, then tap Done
In Notes the scanner stays open after each capture. Apple's steps run: capture the page automatically or by hand, then "Scan additional pages, then tap when you’re done", and the result is that "The document is saved as a PDF in the note" ([*Scan text and documents in Notes using the iPhone camera*, iPhone User Guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/scan-text-and-documents-iph653f28965/ios), read 15 October 2026). Apple's shorter support article words the final step as "Tap the Done button or add additional scans to the document" ([*How to scan documents on your iPhone or iPad*, Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/en-us/108963), read 15 October 2026).

One trap sits after the scan, not during it. If you export the whole note as a PDF, Apple warns that "In a note with a multipage PDF or scanned document, the exported PDF contains only the first page of the original PDF or scanned document" ([*Export or print notes on iPhone*, iPhone User Guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/export-or-print-notes-iphdf551cfa2/ios), read 15 October 2026). To send all the pages, share the scan itself: Apple's page on PDFs in Notes lists "Copy, share, rename, or delete the PDF" among the actions on the attachment ([*Work with PDFs in Notes on iPhone*, iPhone User Guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/work-with-pdfs-iph8958dd125/ios), read 15 October 2026).

## iPhone Files: the same loop, then a folder
The Files app's scanner, reached from the More button and Scan Documents, repeats the Notes loop word for word: "Tap the Done button or add additional scans to the document." Then comes a step Notes does not have: "Choose a location, then tap Save" (the *How to scan documents* article above). That makes the multi-page scan a file in a folder from the start, with no note to export it from.

## Google Drive: the Add button
After each capture Drive lets you adjust the scan, and the add-page control is listed among the edit options: "Scan another page: Tap Add". The same list has "Delete a page: Tap Delete" and "Retake the photo: Tap Retake", so a blurred page can be fixed without starting over. Then "Tap Done" ([*Scan documents with Google Drive* (Android), Google Drive Help](https://support.google.com/drive/answer/3145835?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 15 October 2026). On Android you then choose a format: "To save the scanned document in a specific format, select either .pdf or .jpg." For a multi-page document, pick .pdf; the page does not say what a several-page scan becomes as .jpg. The iPhone version of the page has the same Add step and no format choice at all ([*Scan documents with Google Drive* (iOS version), Google Drive Help](https://support.google.com/drive/answer/3145835?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DiOS), read 15 October 2026).

## Files by Google: Add, worded differently
Files by Google has the same button with a different label in its help: "Scan multiple documents at once: Tap Add." Its neighbours are "Delete a page: Tap Delete" and Retake, and the page ends with "Once the scan is complete, tap Done" ([*How to scan documents with Files by Google*, Files by Google Help](https://support.google.com/files/answer/15598575?hl=en), read 15 October 2026). Google's wording says documents rather than pages, and the page does not spell out whether Add makes one file with several pages or several files. Scan two pages as a test and open the result before scanning a long contract. The page does say the output format: "Scanned documents are automatically saved as PDFs."

## A page you forgot
None of these scanners' help pages describes reopening a finished scan to add another page (the Drive, Files by Google and Apple scanning pages above). Apple's Notes page offers one thing close to it, "Insert Blank Page" among the page edits on a scanned document, which gives you an empty page, not a scanned one (the *Work with PDFs in Notes* page above). The practical fix is to scan the missing page on its own and join the two PDFs; [putting PDFs together](https://docfindapp.com/answers/put-multiple-pdfs-together) covers that on a computer and on iPhone. If you photographed the pages instead of scanning them, [making a PDF from photos on Android](https://docfindapp.com/answers/make-a-photo-pdf-on-android) is the route.

## Finding the words in a long scan later
A twenty-page scan is only useful if you can find page fourteen again. [DocFind](https://docfindapp.com/) searches inside the PDFs you add to it on iPhone or Android, scanned ones included: it runs text recognition on the phone, labels any match that came from it, and opens the PDF at the page that matched. It reads printed text, not handwriting. On Android its recognition covers Latin-script print only. On the free tier the number of imported PDF pages it reads this way is capped; Pro removes the cap. Pages it could not make searchable are reported rather than skipped silently. Whether a scan already carries searchable text is a separate question, answered on [checking for a text layer](https://docfindapp.com/answers/does-my-pdf-have-a-text-layer).
