# How do I select multiple documents at once on a phone? — DocFind

**On an iPhone, open the folder in the Files app, tap the More button, tap Select, then tap each document you want. On Android the gesture is touch and hold: press the first file in Files by Google or Samsung's My Files until it is selected, then tap the others.** What you can do with the group next (move, share, delete) differs by app, so each section below lists the actions its maker names.

## iPhone: Select in the Files app
Apple puts multi-select behind a Select command rather than a long press. Its guide says that "To modify multiple files or folders at the same time", you tap the More button, tap Select, "tap to select the files or folders you want to modify, then tap an option at the bottom of the screen (for example, Share, Move, or Delete)" ([*Organize files and folders in Files on iPhone*, iPhone User Guide](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/organize-files-and-folders-iphab82e0798/ios), read 8 October 2026). A long press still exists, but on that page it acts on one item: "Touch and hold the file or folder, then choose an option: Copy, Move, Compress, Duplicate, or Delete." Your documents have to be in one folder for Select to gather them, so if they are scattered, [the Files folder page](https://docfindapp.com/answers/where-is-the-files-folder-on-iphone) explains where the locations are.

## Android: Files by Google
Google does not give multi-select a page of its own; it describes it inside each task. For moving, in grid view you "Press and hold a file that you want to move", then "To select more files, at the top of each file you want to move, tap the circle", then choose More and Move to. In list view the circles sit beside each file: "Next to each file you want to move, tap the circle" ([*Move files to an existing folder in Internal storage*, Files by Google Help](https://support.google.com/files/answer/9808833?hl=en), read 8 October 2026). Sending files to a nearby phone uses the same idea in fewer words, "To select multiple files, touch and hold them" ([*Share your files with Quick Share on Files by Google*, Files by Google Help](https://support.google.com/files/answer/15685428?hl=en), read 8 October 2026). Neither of those pages mentions a "Select all" control, so we will not promise one.

## Samsung Galaxy: My Files
Samsung's US guide is the one that names a select-all. To move files to a memory card or USB drive, "Find the file you want to move, and then touch and hold the file", and then "To move additional files in the same folder, you will need to select All at the top of the screen. Or, you can select multiple files individually." Its steps for moving and deleting begin the same way: "Touch and hold the file(s) or folder(s) you want to move." Samsung adds that "Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version" ([*Manage files on your Galaxy phone or tablet*, Samsung US](https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00076845/), read 8 October 2026).

## Chrome's Downloads list
If the documents you want are recent downloads, Chrome's own list can act on several at once. Open Chrome, tap More, then Downloads; Google's steps are "To share more than one file, touch and hold the files you want to share, then tap Share", and "To delete more than one file, touch and hold the files you want to delete, then tap Delete" ([*Download a file* (Android), Google Chrome Help](https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95759?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid), read 8 October 2026).

## If you are selecting to look through them
A common reason to gather twenty PDFs is to hunt for the one that mentions a policy number or a clause. Selecting does not get you there: none of the vendor pages above describes searching inside a selection, only moving, sharing or deleting it. Searching inside the files does: [searching every file in a folder](https://docfindapp.com/answers/search-multiple-files-in-a-folder) compares the ways to do it, and if the goal is one combined document instead, [putting PDFs together](https://docfindapp.com/answers/put-multiple-pdfs-together) covers merging.
