How do I find my documents in the HSBC app?

HSBC UK's app keeps statements under each account, keeps other paperwork in a separate area called My documents, and puts certificates of interest behind their own icon. This page is built only from HSBC UK's help page on statements (How To Get A Bank Statement | Online Statements - HSBC UK, read 24 September 2026). That page is about what it calls the "HSBC UK Mobile Banking app"; we have not read HSBC's help in any other country, so none of this is a claim about those.

Statements: open the account first

HSBC UK's steps for the app are:

"Log on to the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app"
"Select the account you want to view a statement for"
"Tap 'View statements'"
"Select the month you want to view the statement for"

How far back that list goes is stated plainly: "You can view old statements up to 6 years back in online or mobile banking." And the format: "You can download a statement in the mobile banking app or online banking in PDF format". One quirk worth knowing before you panic about a missing month: "Digital statements will only show up if there are debits on your account."

Everything else: My documents

For paperwork that is not a statement, HSBC UK's page gives one line: "You can also view other documents in the 'My documents' section in mobile or online banking." It follows that with a caveat — "Not all correspondence from HSBC will be available online and you'll still receive some letters by post."

That is the whole of what the page says about My documents (How To Get A Bank Statement | Online Statements - HSBC UK, read 24 September 2026). It does not list which kinds of letter appear there, it does not say whether they download as PDFs, and it gives no retention period for them the way it does for statements. So if a specific letter matters, save a copy the day it arrives rather than relying on it being in that section later.

Certificates of interest have their own route

These are easy to miss because they are not in either place above. In the app, HSBC UK says to "Select the account you need the certificate of interest for", then "Select the certificate of interest icon – this will show you all of the available certificates of interest, listed by date", and choosing a date "will open a PDF copy of the document." HSBC adds that "you'll only get a statement if there's interest on the account."

If you need a spreadsheet rather than a PDF

Statements come as PDFs. HSBC UK says other formats exist — "such as Excel (xls) or csv" — "but this will need to be done via your transactions list", and the steps it gives for that start with "Log on to online banking", not the app. So for a CSV, use a browser: choose the account, use Search and filter to set the dates, then Download at the bottom of the list.

Proof of address

This is the most common reason people go looking. HSBC UK's position is that "You can use a digital statement for ID purposes as proof of your address" and that it does not issue "stamped and signed paper statements, as the digital version is just as valid." Whether the organisation asking you will accept one is their call, not HSBC's, so check with them before you send it.

A small habit

Six years sounds long until you need a statement from seven years ago for a mortgage or a tax query. Our suggestion, and only ours: download each year's statements once a year into a folder named by account and year, so the copy you keep does not depend on what the app still shows. Where the downloaded PDF lands on your phone.
