How do I find invoices on PayPal?

It depends which side of the payment you were on: if you paid someone, you are looking for a transaction record or a receipt; if you sent the invoice, PayPal keeps it in your list of invoices, where you can download it as a PDF. We read PayPal's United States help pages for this, and PayPal itself warns that "Product and feature availability may differ by market" (Can I archive, delete or cancel an invoice? | PayPal US, read 24 September 2026). Outside the US, check your own country's version.

If you paid: find the payment first

PayPal's route to a single payment is short: "Go to your Activity. Select or search for your payment. You can also click Filters to narrow your search by status or transaction type" (How to Check the Status of Your PayPal Payment | PayPal US, read 24 September 2026).

If what you paid was a PayPal invoice, the seller's side of the help says the receipt comes to you without asking: "When your customer pays a PayPal invoice, they automatically receive a payment receipt." For an ordinary checkout payment, the pages we read do not describe a separate downloadable receipt, so the payment's entry in Activity, or the statement below, is the record PayPal's pages point you to.

If you paid: the statement or a report

For a month or a year, PayPal's statements page is the one to use (How to View and Download Statements and Reports | PayPal US, read 24 September 2026):

Monthly statement: go to paypal.com/reports/accountStatements, "Click Request next to the month you're looking for", then Download when it is ready.
A custom report: "Go to History", click the Download icon, then Custom, pick the report and follow the prompts.

The limits are specific: "You can download a report of your transaction activity for up to the past seven years as a PDF, Quicken, QuickBooks, CSV, or TAB file. Your request can include up to 12 months of activity at a time." Large ones take time — "download logs can take up to 5 business days to generate", and PayPal says it emails you when the file is ready.

A small naming wrinkle: that article says "History" where the payment-status article says "Activity". They appear to describe the same place, but PayPal does not say so, so look for either label.

If you sent the invoice

Your invoices sit in your list of invoices, and PayPal describes a bulk PDF download from there: "To download single or multiple PDFs for your invoices, hover over one or more invoices in your list and check each box. Then choose Download from the actions displayed." That is from the same invoice article cited above.

Two more things from that article are worth knowing. Tidying the list is done by archiving — "You can also archive any paid or canceled invoices" — while deleting is described only for drafts, so a paid invoice is something you archive, not remove. And if a customer asks for a copy after paying, "you can share a link to the paid invoice or create a PDF to send or print."

What PayPal's pages leave out

None of the three pages says how long a sent invoice stays downloadable from your list (Can I archive, delete or cancel an invoice? | PayPal US, How to Check the Status of Your PayPal Payment | PayPal US, and How to View and Download Statements and Reports | PayPal US, all read 24 September 2026); the seven-year figure is for transaction reports, not invoices. So for anything a tax return might rest on, our suggestion is to download the PDFs at the end of each quarter rather than trusting the list to still hold them later.
